Sloane Square is one stop from Victoria, where the Gatwick Express leaves. It sounds simple, but Victoria is one of London's most crowded stations, and SW10 addresses are a bus ride from any Tube at all. Imperial Wharf's Overground to Clapham Junction is another option, with a change there for Gatwick trains.
By car the driver crosses at Battersea or Chelsea Bridge, heads through Clapham and joins the A23 and M23. It is one fixed price whatever the traffic.
By public transport: District line to Victoria, or Overground from Imperial Wharf to Clapham Junction, then a train to Gatwick, about 50–70 min. The catch is station changes with luggage at Victoria or Clapham Junction. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 60 min, or 95 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Chelsea (SW3 / SW10) the route runs over Battersea or Chelsea Bridge, through Clapham and down the A23 to the M23. Coming back from Gatwick the driver follows the M23 and A23 north, then Battersea Bridge back into Chelsea. That is about 26 miles: reckon 60 min off-peak and 95 min when Clapham and the A23 at Streatham is busy.
