From Edgware the driver heads up the M1 to the M25 and runs clockwise round the west of London to the M23 and Gatwick. It avoids central London completely.
By train you would need the Northern line into central London and then Thameslink or the Gatwick Express, which is two stages with luggage.
By public transport: Train from Edgware (Northern line) into central London, then Gatwick Express or Thameslink, about 90–120 min. The catch is two or three changes and a cross-London transfer with cases. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 65 min, or 100 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Edgware (HA8) the route runs the M1 to the M25 and clockwise round the west to the M23. Coming back from Gatwick the driver follows M23 north and the M25 anticlockwise to the M1 and Edgware. That is about 45 miles: reckon 65 min off-peak and 100 min when the M25 between junctions 16 and 7 is busy.

The M25 around junctions 16 to 7, past Heathrow, is the usual slow part. For Israel-bound flights, allow about three hours at Gatwick.

Edgware has one of the largest Jewish communities in the UK, with big United and Orthodox shuls, Jewish primary schools and kosher shops along Station Road, Hale Lane and around Canons Park.
Sitting beside the M1 and close to the M25, Edgware is one of the quickest places in London for Luton, and it has good routes to Heathrow too. We pick up anywhere in HA8, from Station Road to Burnt Oak and Deansbrook Road.
Local tip: For Tel Aviv, Luton and Heathrow are both far closer to Edgware than Gatwick. It is worth comparing flights before you book.
