The driver joins the A406 North Circular just south of Hendon, heads west to Hanger Lane and the A40, and takes the M4 into Heathrow. At quieter times the M1 and M25 are just as quick.
By Tube it is the Northern line into central London and then the Piccadilly or Elizabeth line out, which is a long trip with cases and children.
By public transport: Tube/Overground from Hendon Central (Northern line) or Hendon (Thameslink), changing to the Elizabeth line or Piccadilly line, about 75–110 min. The catch is at least one change, stairs and crowded trains with luggage. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 35 min, or 65 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Hendon (NW4) the route runs along the A406 North Circular to the A40 and M4, or the M1 and M25 at quieter times. Coming back from Heathrow the driver follows M4 and A40 east, then the A406 back to Hendon. That is about 15 miles: reckon 35 min off-peak and 65 min when the A406 around Hanger Lane is busy.

Hanger Lane on the North Circular is the main pinch point. For El Al and BA flights to Tel Aviv, allow about three hours at the airport.

Hendon has one of London's largest Orthodox Jewish communities. Brent Street and Sentinel Square are lined with kosher shops and restaurants, and there are many shuls, batei midrash and Jewish schools within walking distance.
