The Central line runs straight from Notting Hill Gate to Liverpool Street, where the Stansted Express starts. It is one of the easier Stansted rail trips in west London, but it still means a busy Tube ride and a long platform walk with cases.
By car the driver takes the Westway and the Marylebone and Euston Roads, north on the A1 to the North Circular and then the M11.
By public transport: Central line from Notting Hill Gate to Liverpool Street, then the Stansted Express, about 75–95 min. The catch is a crowded Central line and a long walk at Liverpool Street. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 70 min, or 105 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Notting Hill (W11) the route runs east on the A40 Westway and the Marylebone and Euston Roads, then the A1 and North Circular to the M11. Coming back from Stansted the driver follows the M11 and A406, then the Euston Road and the Westway back to Notting Hill. That is about 41 miles: reckon 70 min off-peak and 105 min when the Euston Road and Waterworks Corner is busy.

Notting Hill spreads north from Notting Hill Gate through the pastel terraces around Portobello Road to Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park. There are many small boutique hotels on Pembridge Square and Pembridge Gardens, and plenty of family homes on the garden squares.
Portobello Road and Westbourne Grove are narrow and busy, especially on Saturdays when the market is on. We agree a pickup point on a side street if your front door is on a market street.
