The driver heads east on the Marylebone and Euston Roads, north on the A1 to the North Circular and then up the M11. It is the most reliable way to cross from west to north-east London with luggage.
By train you would take the Elizabeth line to Liverpool Street and then the Stansted Express. It works for one person, but two trains and a platform change are hard with a family.

Out of Paddington (W2) the route runs east along the A501 Marylebone and Euston Roads, then the A1 and A406 to the M11. Coming back from Stansted the driver follows the M11 and A406, then the Euston Road back to Paddington. That is about 40 miles: reckon 70 min off-peak and 100 min when the Euston Road and the A406 at Waterworks Corner is busy.
