There is no direct rail link from Wimbledon to Heathrow. The usual route is the District line to Earl's Court and then the Piccadilly line, which heads back west past Wimbledon's latitude and takes well over an hour.
By car the driver heads through Roehampton to the A316 at Richmond and then across to the airport, so the trip is short and avoids central London completely.
By public transport: District line to Earl's Court, then the Piccadilly line to Heathrow, about 70–85 min. The catch is a long ride into town and back out again with luggage. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 30 min, or 55 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Wimbledon (SW19) the route runs north-west through Roehampton to the A316 at Richmond, then the A312 or M4 to Heathrow. Coming back from Heathrow the driver follows the M4 or A312, the A316 and Roehampton back to SW19. That is about 12 miles: reckon 30 min off-peak and 55 min when the A316 at Richmond is busy.

The A316 around Richmond is the only regular pinch point. For long-haul flights, leaving about three hours before departure is usually enough.

Wimbledon runs from the Village on the hill, with its boutiques and large family houses, down to the town centre on The Broadway and the busy station. The All England Club and Wimbledon Park lie to the north, and the Common stretches west towards Putney and Kingston.
