Richmond to Heathrow: 25 minutes on a good day, and why we still leave early
From Richmond the A316 becomes the M3 spur and the A30 puts you at Terminal 4 or the tunnel to 2 and 3 in about 25 minutes; Terminal 5 is the M25 spur, a few minutes more. The catch is the A316 at Chiswick and Hanworth between 7 and 9 in the morning and the Hogarth roundabout at any hour, which is why a 9am departure gets a 6.30 pickup and a 6am one leaves at 4.15. The Elizabeth line does not serve Richmond, and the District line to Heathrow needs two changes, so for anyone with a case the car is the practical option even before the price is compared.
Coming home, the driver tracks the flight, waits in the short-stay car park and meets you in arrivals with a name board; the first 60 minutes after landing are free and parking is in the fare.
