Places to see at Christmas and New Year: London, Kent and the South Coast

A short, practical list of festive sights and days out we drive people to every December and January, with how to get there for a fixed fare.

London at Christmas

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, the Christmas lights on Regent Street, Oxford Street and Carnaby Street, the Southbank Centre Winter Market, Christmas at Kew Gardens, the Natural History Museum ice rink, Covent Garden and the big-store windows on Regent Street. Most are easiest by car late in the evening when the Tube is packed and the last trains are early.

Kent and the South Coast

Leeds Castle and Hever Castle at Christmas, Canterbury's cathedral and Christmas market, Whitstable and Margate for a bracing Boxing Day walk, Bluewater for last-minute shopping, and the Winchester Christmas market or the New Forest for a pre-cruise or post-Christmas day out.

New Year's Eve

London's fireworks on the Thames are ticketed; roads around Westminster close from the afternoon. Book a fixed-fare car for a pick-up point outside the closure zone and we will confirm the exact spot the day before.
