By car the driver heads north on the A21 to the M25 at junction 5, west to junction 7 and down the M23.
By rail Southern runs from Tonbridge to Redhill, where you change for Gatwick.
By public transport: Train to Redhill, change for Gatwick, about 50–65 min. The catch is a change at Redhill with luggage. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 40 min, or 60 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Tonbridge (TN9 to TN11) the route runs north on the A21 to the M25 at junction 5, west to junction 7 and down the M23. Coming back from Gatwick the driver follows the M23, the M25 and the A21 back to Tonbridge. That is about 33 miles: reckon 40 min off-peak and 60 min when the M25 at junctions 5 to 7 is busy.
