The public-transport version starts at Vauxhall (the Victoria line) and finishes at Kensington (Olympia) (District and the Overground), with a 2-minute walk at the far end. The catch is that the District service to Olympia is sparse outside event days. The taxi is about 20 min, or 40 min when the roads are full, but it is one journey rather than three, and nobody stands up for any of it. If you are travelling light and early, the train usually wins on price. If you are in a group, carrying anything, or leaving after an event, the car wins on everything else.
From the SE11, SW2, SW4, SW8 streets the route runs via the A3 then the A23, finishing on A4 then A315 Hammersmith Road. That is about 6.7 miles. Reckon 20 min off-peak and 40 min if you are crossing town at the wrong moment.

Parking at Olympia London is limited and the surrounding streets are metered or permit-only, so self-driving usually costs more in time than the fare saves. Being dropped at the door and collected at an agreed point removes the whole problem.
