The driver crosses Tower Bridge, follows the Highway through Wapping and drops through the Limehouse Link to Silvertown.
By rail it is the Jubilee line from London Bridge to Canning Town and the DLR to the airport, one change and about half an hour.
By public transport: Jubilee line to Canning Town, then the DLR, about 25–35 min. The catch is a change at Canning Town. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 20 min, or 40 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of London Bridge (SE1) the route runs over Tower Bridge, along the Highway and through the Limehouse Link. Coming back from London City the driver follows the A13 and Limehouse Link, then the Highway and Tower Bridge. That is about 7 miles: reckon 20 min off-peak and 40 min when Tower Bridge and the Highway is busy.
London City is small and quick. Your driver meets you just outside arrivals with a name board, usually within minutes of you leaving the aircraft.
