By public transport: Overground from Gunnersbury to Stratford, then the DLR to London City Airport, about 70–85 min. The catch is a long Overground ride and a change at Stratford. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 55 min, or 85 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Chiswick (W4) the route runs along the A4, the Embankment and through the City to the Limehouse Link. Coming back from London City the driver follows the A13 and Limehouse Link, the City and the Embankment, then the A4 back to Chiswick. That is about 18 miles: reckon 55 min off-peak and 85 min when the Cromwell Road, the Embankment and the City is busy.
