By Tube it is the District line from Turnham Green or Chiswick Park to Acton Town and then the Piccadilly line to Heathrow. It is not far, but the change and the stopping service with cases can take nearly an hour.
By car the driver joins the A4 Great West Road and follows the M4 to junction 4. On a clear road you are at the terminal in about 20 minutes.
By public transport: District line to Acton Town, then the Piccadilly line to Heathrow, about 40–55 min. The catch is a change at Acton Town and a stopping service with luggage. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 20 min, or 40 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Chiswick (W4) the route runs straight out along the A4 Great West Road and the M4 to junction 4. Coming back from Heathrow the driver follows the M4 and A4 east back to Chiswick. That is about 9 miles: reckon 20 min off-peak and 40 min when the elevated M4 and junction 4 is busy.
