Acton is one of the closest parts of inner west London to Heathrow. The driver heads down to Gunnersbury and the Chiswick Roundabout and follows the M4 to the airport.
By rail the Piccadilly line runs direct from Acton Town to every Heathrow terminal, with no change.
By public transport: Piccadilly line direct from Acton Town to Heathrow, about 35–45 min. The catch is a crowded Tube with luggage at peak times. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 25 min, or 45 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Acton (W3) the route runs down to Gunnersbury and the Chiswick Roundabout, then along the M4. Coming back from Heathrow the driver follows the M4 to the Chiswick Roundabout and up through Gunnersbury to W3. That is about 10 miles: reckon 25 min off-peak and 45 min when the Chiswick Roundabout is busy.
