By rail it is a train from North Dulwich to London Bridge and then Thameslink to Gatwick, which means going north before heading south.

Out of Dulwich (SE21 / SE22) the route runs south through Crystal Palace and Croydon to the A23 and M23. Coming back from Gatwick the driver follows the M23 and A23 north, then Croydon and Crystal Palace back to Dulwich. That is about 21 miles: reckon 50 min off-peak and 80 min when Croydon and the A23 is busy.
