By rail you would go Knightsbridge (the Piccadilly line) across to Putney Bridge (the District line), then a 15-minute walk at the far end. The catch is that it leaves a 15-minute walk through Bishops Park, unlit in winter. The taxi is about 20 min, or 35 min when the roads are full, but it is one journey rather than three, and nobody stands up for any of it. It is a fair fight on the way there. On the way back, when several thousand people want the same platform, it stops being one.
The usual line from Knightsbridge is the A4 then the A315, then A4 then A219 Fulham Palace Road at the end. Roughly 5.4 miles, and the timing swings with the hour rather than the route: 20 min clear, 35 min loaded.

If you were thinking of driving yourself: Craven Cottage sits inside a matchday or event-day controlled parking zone, on-site spaces are pre-book only and go early, and the residential streets around it are permit-holders only with active enforcement. A drop-off and a booked return sidesteps it entirely.
Doors are usually an hour before the match. Working back, that means leaving Knightsbridge around 35 min plus that hour on a busy night - and booking the return at the same time, because the road out is slower than the road in.
