From Clapton Common the driver takes Lea Bridge Road to the A12 and follows it down to Silvertown. There are no motorways and no central London traffic.

By public transport: Overground or Tube to Stratford or Canning Town, then the DLR, about 45–75 min. The catch is two or three changes with bags. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 20 min, or 40 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Clapton (E5) the route runs down Lea Bridge Road and the A12 to Silvertown. Coming back from London City the driver follows the A12 and Lea Bridge Road back to Clapton. That is about 7 miles: reckon 20 min off-peak and 40 min when the A12 at rush hour is busy.
