West Brompton, next to Earl's Court, has Overground trains to Clapham Junction, where Southern trains run to Gatwick. It is a sensible route for one traveller.

By public transport: Overground from West Brompton to Clapham Junction, then Southern to Gatwick, about 50–65 min. The catch is a change at Clapham Junction with stairs. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 65 min, or 100 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Earl's Court (SW5) the route runs over Battersea Bridge, through Clapham and down the A23 to the M23. Coming back from Gatwick the driver follows the M23 and A23 north, Clapham and Battersea Bridge back to Earl's Court. Earl's Court is packed with hotels and short-stay flats, from large hotels on the Cromwell Road to small ones on Penywern Road and Trebovir Road, with garden squares and mansion blocks behind them. Its station is one of the busiest Tube interchanges in west London.
