The public-transport version starts at Hammersmith (Piccadilly, District, Circle and Hammersmith & City) and finishes at Putney Bridge (the District line), with a 15-minute walk at the far end. The catch is that it leaves a 15-minute walk through Bishops Park, unlit in winter. A car does the whole thing door to door in about 10 min, or 15 min when the roads are full - and it does it with your bags in the boot. Two people with hand luggage should take the train. Three or more, or anyone with a case, and the fixed fare splits better than the tickets do.
From Hammersmith & Fulham it is barely a journey on paper - A4 then A219 Fulham Palace Road and you are there. The ground backs onto the Thames with one road in, so drivers wait on Fulham Palace Road rather than trying to turn at the gate.
