By rail it is the DLR north to Poplar and a change for trains to London City Airport.
By public transport: DLR to Poplar, then the DLR to London City Airport, about 25–35 min. The catch is a change at Poplar. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 15 min, or 25 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Isle of Dogs (E14) the route runs up past Canary Wharf, along Aspen Way and the Lower Lea Crossing. Coming back from London City the driver follows Silvertown Way and Aspen Way back to the Isle of Dogs. That is about 5 miles: reckon 15 min off-peak and 25 min when Aspen Way and the Westferry Road is busy.
