The public-transport version starts at Notting Hill Gate (the Central, District and Circle lines) and finishes at Putney Bridge (the District line), with a 15-minute walk at the far end. The catch is that it leaves a 15-minute walk through Bishops Park, unlit in winter. The taxi is about 15 min, or 30 min when the roads are full, but it is one journey rather than three, and nobody stands up for any of it. If you are travelling light and early, the train usually wins on price. If you are in a group, carrying anything, or leaving after an event, the car wins on everything else.
Out of Notting Hill (W11, W2, W10) the driver picks up the A40 then the A402, joining A4 then A219 Fulham Palace Road for the run-in. About 4.7 miles in all - 15 min when it flows, 30 min when it does not.
Pickups in Notting Hill land inside the Congestion Charge zone, which is already in the price - and on W11, W2, W10 the driver will name a legal stopping point rather than idle on a red route.
Fulham Palace Road at the Bishops Park end - Stevenage Road is residents-only on matchdays. The ground backs onto the Thames with one road in, so drivers wait on Fulham Palace Road rather than trying to turn at the gate. Your driver sends the exact standing point and the registration before they set off, so you are not circling a car park looking for a number plate.

If you were thinking of driving yourself: Craven Cottage sits inside a matchday or event-day controlled parking zone, on-site spaces are pre-book only and go early, and the residential streets around it are permit-holders only with active enforcement. Pre-booked both ways, none of that is your problem.
Doors are usually an hour before the match. Working back, that means leaving Notting Hill around 30 min plus that hour on a busy night - and booking the return at the same time, because the road out is slower than the road in.
