The driver takes the A111 to the M25 at junction 24, runs anticlockwise to the M1 and heads north to junction 10. There is no town driving after the first few minutes.
Luton has low-cost Tel Aviv flights when airlines are operating the route. By train it would mean a trip into central London for Thameslink and then the DART.
By public transport: Train to St Pancras or West Hampstead, Thameslink to Luton Airport Parkway, then the DART, about 80–110 min. The catch is three separate legs and the DART shuttle at the end. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 35 min, or 55 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Southgate (N14 / N21) the route runs the M25 from junction 24 round to the M1 and north to junction 10. Coming back from Luton the driver follows M1 south and the M25 back to junction 24. That is about 27 miles: reckon 35 min off-peak and 55 min when the M25 between junctions 21 and 24 is busy.
