By public transport: DLR direct from Woolwich Arsenal to London City Airport, about 10–15 min. The catch is getting to Woolwich Arsenal with luggage. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 15 min, or 30 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Woolwich (SE18) the route runs across the river on the Woolwich Ferry when it is running, or through the Silvertown Tunnel, to the airport. Coming back from London City the driver follows the Woolwich Ferry or the Silvertown Tunnel back to SE18. That is about 5 miles: reckon 15 min off-peak and 30 min when the ferry queue or the tunnel approaches is busy.
