By rail it is the Northern line to Bank and the DLR to the airport, with one change.
By public transport: Northern line to Bank, then the DLR, about 30–40 min. The catch is a change at Bank with luggage. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 30 min, or 50 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Angel (N1) the route runs down City Road and through the Limehouse Link to Silvertown. Coming back from London City the driver follows the A13 and Limehouse Link, then City Road back to Angel. That is about 9 miles: reckon 30 min off-peak and 50 min when City Road and the Limehouse Link is busy.

Angel is the busy southern end of Islington, where Upper Street, Islington High Street and Pentonville Road meet. It is full of Georgian terraces, converted warehouses along the Regent's Canal, restaurants on Upper Street and theatres like Sadler's Wells and the Almeida.
