By rail you take the Northern line from Angel to London Bridge and change for Thameslink or Southern to Gatwick. It is one change, but London Bridge is busy at rush hour.
By car the driver heads south through the City, crosses Blackfriars Bridge and follows the A23 through Elephant and Castle and Streatham to the M23.
By public transport: Northern line to London Bridge, then Thameslink or Southern to Gatwick, about 55–70 min. The catch is a change at London Bridge with luggage. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 70 min, or 105 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Angel (N1) the route runs south through the City, over Blackfriars Bridge and through Elephant and Castle to the A23 and M23. Coming back from Gatwick the driver follows the M23 and A23 north, Elephant and Castle and Blackfriars Bridge back to Angel. That is about 30 miles: reckon 70 min off-peak and 105 min when the City, Elephant and Castle and Streatham is busy.

Angel is the busy southern end of Islington, where Upper Street, Islington High Street and Pentonville Road meet. It is full of Georgian terraces, converted warehouses along the Regent's Canal, restaurants on Upper Street and theatres like Sadler's Wells and the Almeida.
Upper Street and the Angel crossroads are congested for much of the day. For addresses nearby we may suggest a pickup on a quieter side street, and the driver calls when outside.
