By rail you can take the Overground from Highbury & Islington to Stratford, then the DLR direct to London City Airport, avoiding central London.
By car the driver heads down through Highbury Corner and Old Street and on through the Limehouse Link to Silvertown.
By public transport: Overground from Highbury & Islington to Stratford, then the DLR to London City Airport, about 40–50 min. The catch is a change at Stratford. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 35 min, or 55 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Holloway (N7) the route runs down through Highbury Corner and Old Street to the Limehouse Link. Coming back from London City the driver follows the A13 and Limehouse Link, then Old Street and Highbury Corner back to Holloway. That is about 11 miles: reckon 35 min off-peak and 55 min when Highbury Corner and Old Street is busy.
