The driver follows the Chelsea and Victoria Embankments, crosses the City and drops through the Limehouse Link to the airport. It is a river-hugging route with no motorways.
By rail it is the District or Circle line from Sloane Square to Monument, a walk through to Bank, and the DLR to the airport.
By public transport: District or Circle line to Monument, walk to Bank, then the DLR, about 45–55 min. The catch is a walk between Monument and Bank with luggage. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 40 min, or 65 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Chelsea (SW3 / SW10) the route runs along the Chelsea and Victoria Embankments, through the City and down the Limehouse Link. Coming back from London City the driver follows the A13 and Limehouse Link, then along the river back to Chelsea. That is about 12 miles: reckon 40 min off-peak and 65 min when the Embankment and the City is busy.
