By public transport: Elizabeth line from Farringdon to Custom House, then the DLR, about 30–40 min. The catch is a change at Custom House. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 25 min, or 45 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Clerkenwell (EC1) the route runs along Old Street and the Commercial Road to the Limehouse Link. Coming back from London City the driver follows the A13 and Limehouse Link, then the Commercial Road back to EC1. That is about 8 miles: reckon 25 min off-peak and 45 min when Commercial Road at rush hour is busy.
