By rail you would go Russell Square (the Piccadilly line) across to Alexandra Palace (National Rail), then a 20-minute walk at the far end. The catch is that it is a steep uphill walk unless you wait for the shuttle. A car does the whole thing door to door in about 25 min, or 40 min when the roads are full - and it does it with your bags in the boot. Two people with hand luggage should take the train. Three or more, or anyone with a case, and the fixed fare splits better than the tickets do.
From the WC1 streets the route runs via the A501 then the A400, finishing on A406 North Circular, then Bounds Green Road. Roughly 7.4 miles, and the timing swings with the hour rather than the route: 25 min clear, 40 min loaded.
