By rail you would go Old Street (the Northern line) across to Alexandra Palace (National Rail), then a 20-minute walk at the far end. The catch is that it is a steep uphill walk unless you wait for the shuttle. A car does the whole thing door to door in about 25 min, or 40 min when the roads are full - and it does it with your bags in the boot. It is a fair fight on the way there. On the way back, when several thousand people want the same platform, it stops being one.
Out of Old Street (EC1V, EC1Y) the driver picks up the A501 then the A10, joining A406 North Circular, then Bounds Green Road for the run-in. That is about 7.5 miles. Reckon 25 min off-peak and 40 min if you are crossing town at the wrong moment.
