By rail you would go Old Street (the Northern line) across to Marble Arch (the Central line), then a 10-minute walk at the far end. The catch is that which gate you leave by decides how far you walk. The taxi is about 20 min, or 35 min when the roads are full, but it is one journey rather than three, and nobody stands up for any of it. It is a fair fight on the way there. On the way back, when several thousand people want the same platform, it stops being one.
Out of Old Street (EC1V, EC1Y) the driver picks up the A501 then the A10, joining A40 Westway, then Bayswater Road for the run-in. Roughly 6.1 miles, and the timing swings with the hour rather than the route: 20 min clear, 35 min loaded.
