Taxi or train from Havering?

By rail you would go Romford (the Elizabeth line) across to Charlton (National Rail), then a 6-minute walk at the far end. The catch is that it is a limited service, and weekend engineering works are common. Door to door by road is about 30 min, or 50 min when the roads are full, with no changes, no stairs and no queue at the barrier. It is a fair fight on the way there. On the way back, when several thousand people want the same platform, it stops being one.

The route

The usual line from Havering is the A12 then the A127, then A102 then A206 Woolwich Road at the end. About 12.7 miles in all - 30 min when it flows, 50 min when it does not.

Any address across Havering works, RM1, RM3, RM11, RM14 included, at whatever hour the East London traffic is doing its worst.

Where the driver waits at The Valley

Charlton Church Lane or Harvey Gardens, a two-minute walk from the West Stand. Floyd Road is closed to traffic at full time, so pickup is up the hill on Charlton Church Lane. Your driver sends the exact standing point and the registration before they set off, so you are not circling a car park looking for a number plate.

Address: Floyd Road, Charlton, SE7 8BL.

Parking at The Valley

If you were thinking of driving yourself: The Valley sits inside a matchday or event-day controlled parking zone, on-site spaces are pre-book only and go early, and the residential streets around it are permit-holders only with active enforcement. Being dropped at the door and collected at an agreed point removes the whole problem.

When to leave Havering

Doors are usually an hour before the match. Working back, that means leaving Havering around 50 min plus that hour on a busy night - and booking the return at the same time, because the road out is slower than the road in.

What the fare includes

Havering to The Valley: common questions

How much is a taxi from Havering to The Valley?

£70 in a saloon, £85 in a 6-seat MPV and £95 in an 8-seater. That is the fixed price, agreed at booking.

Is it quicker than public transport from Havering?

Door to door the car is about 30 min off-peak. The rail alternative is Romford to Charlton plus the walk, which is competitive going out and considerably slower coming back.

Where does the driver wait at The Valley?

Charlton Church Lane or Harvey Gardens, a two-minute walk from the West Stand. You get the exact point and the registration by text beforehand.

Is the price affected by traffic or the time of night?

No. The fare is fixed when you book. Traffic, tolls and the hour are our problem, not a line on your bill.

Can I book the return from The Valley as well?

Yes, and it is the leg worth booking. The driver is in position before you come out instead of you joining the queue that forms the moment it ends.

What if the match overruns?

The driver waits. We watch venue finish times rather than working to a fixed clock, so a late curtain does not leave you stranded or cost you extra.

How do I pay?

Card, bank transfer or a business account, before or after the journey. A VAT receipt is issued either way.
