The public-transport version starts at Aldgate (Circle and Metropolitan) and finishes at Charlton (National Rail), with a 6-minute walk at the far end. The catch is that it is a limited service, and weekend engineering works are common. A car does the whole thing door to door in about 25 min, or 40 min when the roads are full - and it does it with your bags in the boot. If you are travelling light and early, the train usually wins on price. If you are in a group, carrying anything, or leaving after an event, the car wins on everything else.
The usual line from Aldgate is the A1211 then the A11, then A102 then A206 Woolwich Road at the end. Roughly 7.7 miles, and the timing swings with the hour rather than the route: 25 min clear, 40 min loaded.
Aldgate is dense, one-way and camera-enforced. The driver texts a workable standing point in EC3, E1 instead of guessing, which is the difference between a two-minute wait and a fine.
Charlton Church Lane or Harvey Gardens, a two-minute walk from the West Stand. Floyd Road is closed to traffic at full time, so pickup is up the hill on Charlton Church Lane. Your driver sends the exact standing point and the registration before they set off, so you are not circling a car park looking for a number plate.

If you were thinking of driving yourself: The Valley sits inside a matchday or event-day controlled parking zone, on-site spaces are pre-book only and go early, and the residential streets around it are permit-holders only with active enforcement. Pre-booked both ways, none of that is your problem.
Doors are usually an hour before the match. Working back, that means leaving Aldgate around 40 min plus that hour on a busy night - and booking the return at the same time, because the road out is slower than the road in.
