By Tube it is the District line from East Putney or Putney Bridge to Earl's Court and then the Piccadilly line, which takes over an hour. There is no direct rail line from Putney to the airport.
By car the driver crosses Putney Bridge, joins the A4 and follows the M4 to Heathrow, usually in well under an hour.
By public transport: District line to Earl's Court, then the Piccadilly line to Heathrow, about 60–75 min. The catch is a change at Earl's Court and a slow Piccadilly line ride. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 30 min, or 50 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Putney (SW15) the route runs over Putney Bridge to the A4 and out along the M4. Coming back from Heathrow the driver follows the M4 and A4, then back over Putney Bridge to SW15. That is about 11 miles: reckon 30 min off-peak and 50 min when Hammersmith and the Hogarth Roundabout is busy.

Putney runs south from the river at Putney Bridge, up the High Street to Putney Heath, with rowing clubs along the Embankment and family houses and mansion flats across SW15. Roehampton and its university lie to the west.
