Taxi or train from Battersea?

The public-transport version starts at Battersea Power Station (the Northern line) and finishes at Southfields (the District line), with a 15-minute walk at the far end. The catch is that Southfields is queue-managed throughout The Championships. A car does the whole thing door to door in about 20 min, or 35 min when the roads are full - and it does it with your bags in the boot. It is a fair fight on the way there. On the way back, when several thousand people want the same platform, it stops being one.

The route

The usual line from Battersea is the A3205 then the A3036, then A3 then A219 Parkside at the end. About 5.8 miles in all - 20 min when it flows, 35 min when it does not.

Any address across Battersea works, SW8, SW11 included, at whatever hour the South West London traffic is doing its worst.

Where the driver waits at The Championships, Wimbledon

Somerset Road or Burghley Road; Church Road itself is closed to traffic during The Championships. Church Road and Somerset Road operate a controlled zone through the fortnight, so drivers meet at the agreed gate rather than the main entrance. Your driver sends the exact standing point and the registration before they set off, so you are not circling a car park looking for a number plate.

Address: All England Lawn Tennis Club, Church Road, SW19 5AE.

Parking at The Championships, Wimbledon

Parking at The Championships, Wimbledon is limited and the surrounding streets are metered or permit-only, so self-driving usually costs more in time than the fare saves. Being dropped at the door and collected at an agreed point removes the whole problem.

When to leave Battersea

Doors are usually an hour before the day at the tennis. Working back, that means leaving Battersea around 35 min plus that hour on a busy night - and booking the return at the same time, because the road out is slower than the road in.
