The driver heads south through South Norwood and Croydon, follows the Purley Way and the A23, and joins the M23 for the airport.
By rail it is Southern from Crystal Palace, changing at Norwood Junction or East Croydon for a Gatwick train.
By public transport: Southern to Norwood Junction or East Croydon, then a train to Gatwick, about 45–60 min. The catch is a change with luggage. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 40 min, or 65 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Crystal Palace (SE19 / SE20) the route runs south through South Norwood and Croydon to the A23 and M23. Coming back from Gatwick the driver follows the M23 and A23 north, then Croydon and South Norwood back to Crystal Palace.
