Out of Crouch End (N8) the route runs south via Stroud Green and Holloway, through King's Cross and Holborn, over Blackfriars Bridge and down the A23 to the M23. Coming back from Gatwick the driver follows the M23 and A23 north, Blackfriars Bridge, Holborn and Holloway back to Crouch End. That is about 35 miles: reckon 80 min off-peak and 115 min when Holloway, Holborn and Streatham is busy.

Crouch End is a village-like neighbourhood at the foot of the hills below Highgate and Muswell Hill, centred on the Clock Tower and the Broadway, with Edwardian family houses, the art deco Hornsey Town Hall and the Parkland Walk running along an old railway line.
Crouch End has no Tube station, so many residents rely on buses to Finsbury Park or Highgate. A car from the door avoids that first leg with luggage.
