By car the driver heads south on the A217 over Burgh Heath to the M25 at junction 8, round to junction 7 and down the M23.
By public transport it is about 35 minutes from Epsom to London Waterloo, then the Tube to Victoria and the Gatwick Express.
By public transport: Train to Waterloo, then the Tube to Victoria and the Gatwick Express, about 85–105 min. The catch is changing trains in central London with cases. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 30 min, or 45 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Epsom (KT17 to KT19) the route runs south on the A217 over Burgh Heath to the M25 at junction 8, round to junction 7 and down the M23. Coming back from Gatwick the driver follows the M23, the M25 and the A217 back to Epsom. That is about 20 miles: reckon 30 min off-peak and 45 min when the A217 at Burgh Heath is busy.
