Luton has low-cost Tel Aviv flights when airlines are operating the route. By train it is Thameslink from Mill Hill Broadway or Hendon and then the DART shuttle.
By public transport: Thameslink from Hendon or Mill Hill Broadway to Luton Airport Parkway, then the DART, about 55–80 min. The catch is a bus or drive to the station first, then the DART shuttle with cases. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 35 min, or 55 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Finchley (N3 / N2 / N12) the route runs up the A1 or A41 to the M1 and north to junction 10. Coming back from Luton the driver follows M1 south and the A1 back into Finchley. That is about 25 miles: reckon 35 min off-peak and 55 min when the M1 at Brent Cross and the A1 is busy.
