By rail it is the Northern line to Kentish Town, Thameslink to Luton Airport Parkway and the DART, a long way round for a short distance.
By public transport: Northern line to Kentish Town, Thameslink to Luton Airport Parkway, then the DART, about 70–85 min. The catch is a long detour through north London. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 30 min, or 45 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Whetstone (N20) the route runs north to the M25, west to the M1 and up to junction 10. Coming back from Luton the driver follows the M1 and M25 back to South Mimms and down to N20. That is about 25 miles: reckon 30 min off-peak and 45 min when the M25 at the A1 and M1 junctions is busy.
Luton has one terminal. Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name board, so there is no DART shuttle or bus to work out.

Whetstone lies along the old Great North Road between North Finchley and Barnet, with a busy High Road, family houses around Oakleigh Park and the large homes of Totteridge Lane to the west. It sits close to the M25, which changes the best routes to several airports.
