Whetstone is close enough to the M25 that the driver often goes round the western M25 rather than through London. It is further in miles, but more predictable than the North Circular.
By rail it is the Northern line from Totteridge & Whetstone into central London and the Elizabeth line out to Heathrow, a long trip with a change.
By public transport: Northern line from Totteridge & Whetstone into town, then the Elizabeth line, about 80–95 min. The catch is a very long Tube ride and a change. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 40 min, or 70 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Whetstone (N20) the route runs north to the M25 and round the western M25 to Heathrow. Coming back from Heathrow the driver follows the M25 anticlockwise back to South Mimms and down to Whetstone. That is about 30 miles: reckon 40 min off-peak and 70 min when the M25 between the M1 and M4 is busy.
