Hammersmith is on the Piccadilly line, which runs direct to Heathrow in about 45 minutes. It is a good option for one person, though the trains get busy and there is little room for large cases.
By car the driver joins the A4 at the flyover and follows the M4 to junction 4, usually in well under an hour.

Out of Hammersmith (W6) the route runs west along the A4 and the M4 to junction 4. Coming back from Heathrow the driver follows the M4 and A4 east back to the Hammersmith flyover. That is about 11 miles: reckon 25 min off-peak and 45 min when the Hogarth Roundabout and the elevated M4 is busy.
