By rail the Jubilee line runs from Baker Street to Canning Town, where you change to the DLR for the airport. It is a single change and works well for one traveller.
By public transport: Jubilee line from Baker Street to Canning Town, then the DLR, about 35–45 min. The catch is a change at Canning Town. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 35 min, or 60 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.

Coming back from London City the driver follows the A13 and Limehouse Link, then City Road and the Euston Road. That is about 11 miles: reckon 35 min off-peak and 60 min when the Euston Road and City Road is busy.
