The Elizabeth line from Bond Street to Custom House and two stops on the DLR is a good option for one person with a briefcase. For luggage, groups or an early flight, the car is door to door.

Out of Mayfair (W1) the route runs along Piccadilly and the Strand to the Embankment, through the City and the Limehouse Link. Coming back from London City the driver follows the A13 and Limehouse Link, then the City and the Strand back to W1. That is about 11 miles: reckon 35 min off-peak and 60 min when the Strand and the City is busy.
