Thameslink runs direct from the St Pancras lower level to Gatwick in under an hour, which suits one traveller with light bags.
By car the driver heads through Holborn, crosses Blackfriars Bridge and follows the A23 through Brixton and Streatham to the M23.
By public transport: Thameslink direct from St Pancras to Gatwick, about 45–60 min. The catch is carrying luggage down to the lower-level platforms. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 75 min, or 110 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of St Pancras International (N1C) the route runs down through Bloomsbury and Holborn, over Blackfriars Bridge and through Elephant and Castle, Brixton and Streatham to the A23 and M23. Coming back from Gatwick the driver follows the M23 and A23 north through Streatham and Brixton, then Blackfriars back to St Pancras. That is about 30 miles: reckon 75 min off-peak and 110 min when Holborn, Blackfriars and Brixton is busy.
