The quickest roads out of N16 to Luton are either up the A10 to the M25 and round to the M1, or west on the A406 to join the M1 at Brent Cross. The driver picks whichever is clearer at the time.
By rail you would need to get to St Pancras, take Thameslink to Luton Airport Parkway and then the DART shuttle, which is three separate legs with luggage. A car drops you right outside the terminal.

Out of Stamford Hill (N16) the route runs up the A10 to the M25 or west on the A406 to the M1. Coming back from Luton the driver follows M1 south to the A406, or the M25 and A10 into N16. That is about 34 miles: reckon 55 min off-peak and 80 min when the A406 near Brent Cross or the M25 is busy.
