The public-transport version starts at Barking (District, Hammersmith & City and c2c) and finishes at Swanley (National Rail), with a connecting bus at the far end. The catch is that there is no service to the circuit itself, so you end up in a taxi from the station regardless. A car does the whole thing door to door in about 40 min, or 1h when the roads are full - and it does it with your bags in the boot. It is a fair fight on the way there. On the way back, when several thousand people want the same platform, it stops being one.
