The driver follows the A13 to the Blackwall Tunnel, then takes the A2, the South Circular and the A23 to the M23.
By rail it is the District line to Whitechapel, the Elizabeth line to Farringdon and then Thameslink to Gatwick.
By public transport: District line, Elizabeth line to Farringdon, then Thameslink, about 80–95 min. The catch is two changes with luggage. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 70 min, or 105 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of East Ham (E6) the route runs along the A13 to the Blackwall Tunnel, then the A2, the South Circular and the A23 to the M23. Coming back from Gatwick the driver follows the M23 and A23, the South Circular and the Blackwall Tunnel back along the A13. That is about 30 miles: reckon 70 min off-peak and 105 min when the Blackwall Tunnel and the South Circular is busy.

East Ham runs from the station and High Street North, with its many South Asian shops and restaurants, past the Old Town Hall and Central Park to Wallend and Beckton, with Green Street and Upton Park on its western side.
High Street North is busy with buses and loading bays. For addresses on it, we pick up on a side street, and the driver calls when outside.
