By rail you would go Uxbridge (Metropolitan and Piccadilly) across to Twickenham (National Rail), then a 12-minute walk at the far end. The catch is that the station is queue-managed for over an hour after internationals. A car does the whole thing door to door in about 25 min, or 40 min when the roads are full - and it does it with your bags in the boot. Two people with hand luggage should take the train. Three or more, or anyone with a case, and the fixed fare splits better than the tickets do.
From the UB8, UB10, HA4 streets the route runs via the A40 then the M4 J4, finishing on A316 Chertsey Road, then Whitton Road. Roughly 10.5 miles, and the timing swings with the hour rather than the route: 25 min clear, 40 min loaded.
