By public transport: Tube to Liverpool Street, then Stansted Express, about 70–90 min. The catch is a change at Liverpool Street with luggage. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 60 min, or 90 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Euston (NW1) the route runs east along the Euston Road to the A1 and the North Circular, then the M11. Coming back from Stansted the driver follows the M11 and A406, then the A1 back to the Euston Road. That is about 36 miles: reckon 60 min off-peak and 90 min when the A1 at Holloway and the A406 at Waterworks Corner is busy.
